How long have you been modelling for?

1 consecutive year

Who/What made you want to model?

I've always wanted to model since a young girl and as I got older Kate Moss was a huge inspiration to me.

 

Have you always been one of those people who just loves to be in front of the camera (or mirror) posing?
YES! Since I could walk. I pose and look in anything I can see my reflection in.

What is it like on set/shoots, there’s a lot of girls, is there really any bitchiness or does everyone just get on and support each other?
I've always had dope collabs. I haven’t run into anyone out of line yet, but then again I may just have that "I won’t stand for it" look.

What do you do when you’re not modelling?
I’m mastering the craft of acting or shopping.

Who is your favourite model?
It’s between Kate Moss and Tyra Banks. I don’t aspire to be anyone but ME! Though I will learn from the path they paved.

 

What your best feature?

-My lips

What type of modelling would you never do?

Nothing is ever out of the question. Sometimes things just need to be tweaked. There’s always a loop hole.

Obviously models have to have a tight body, what do you do to keep in shape?

 I LIVE! I don’t strive to be like what you see on TV and in magazines. I want people to know I’m real, that will make it so much easier for others to relate to me.

Most people think that being a model is an easy job, they don’t realize that it’s a lot of hard work and new models face a lot of criticism and rejection are you ready for that?
Born ready. Over the years my skin has thickened and I'm ready to face the industry head on.

There’s loads of girls who want to be the next top model what makes you so different?

My outlook on life. People like me are rare now. I am charismatic, energetic, reliable, goal-oriented and most importantly OPTIMISTIC. Some people say they want it but are never really willing to risk it all to achieve it. It’s my time now and I will prove that.

Elle, Seventeen, Vogue and Covergirl, Photographer Nigel Barker and Denzel Washington

What’s next for you?

Everything under the sun! I won’t say perfection but I will work hard everyday to get closer to it. Sit back and watch me work <3

How long have you been modelling for?
Consecutively for about 3 years.

Have you always been one of those people who just loves to be in front of the camera (or mirror) posing?
As a child I always loved being in the camera and would strut around the house attempting to follow the footsteps of my older sister who I looked up to and admired as she progressed through her modelling career.

What’s the best job you’ve been on?
Hmmm... I had the great opportunity to work with Richi Rich and Pachi Lake during Fashion week.

What is it like on set/shoots, there’s a lot of girls, is there really any bitchiness or does everyone just get on & support each other?
On set I always have a great time with other models. It's honestly a team effort between the models, designers and stylist.
What do you do when you’re not modelling?
When I'm not modelling I’m spending time with my friends and family.

Who is your favourite model, do you aspire to be like any model in particular?
I wouldn’t say I have a favourite. I find that a variety of models have inspired me along the way.

What your best feature?
I would like to say my best feature is my personality.

What type of modelling would you never do?
Growing up I was always told “Don’t do anything you would not want printed on the front page of the newspaper” so I refrain from anything degrading.

Obviously models have to have a tight body, what do you do to keep in shape?
I like to do Yoga and Pilates, it's not just relaxing but it helps to maintain your shape.

The criticism and rejection is what makes you stronger in this industry. When facing criticism I take it constructively and look at what ways it can help me. You will find that you will come in contact with a lot of rejection along the way it just means
That it wasn't meant for you and there's something bigger and better to come.

There are loads of girls who want to be the next top model how do you stand out? What makes you so different?
I’m a unique individual and I like to pursue my dreams and goals in life accomplishing everything I start.

What’s next for you?
I am set to start co-hosting a radio show down in Miami and I'm currently in the process of organizing my own Charity Foundation.

After seeing soo many size zero models on the catwalks, it's refreshing to see a model who embraces her curves and is happy to be fuller figured and actually doesn't look like shes living on a diet of a lettuce leaf, cigarettes & cocaine. Wanting to inspire insecure girls, Nashville resident Kimmy-K tells FU what motivated her to start modelling.

How long have you been modeling for?
Almost 3 years.

What made you want to model?
When I was growing up I was always called fat and ugly and I never had a lot of self esteem. I never had someone to encourage me and make me feel beautiful, so that’s what really made me want to model. I want to uplift young insecure girls.

Have you always been one of those people who just loves to be in front of the camera (or mirror) posing?
As I got older I started to love the mirror and the camera. I used to be a tom boy and I used to shop in the men’s department and wear tennis shoes all the time. When I finally turned 20 and got boyfriend things changed. Now I love the camera and I am always in the mirror.

What's the best job you've been on?
An album cover for a Rock Bank “Turbo Fruit”.

Who is your favorite model, do you aspire to be like any model in particular?
YES I have a few favorite models. I love Tocarra Jones, Asia Monet, Mia Amber, and Mia Tyler just to name a few. These ladies are amazing and I admire them a lot.

What type of modelling would you never do?
Nude

YES I am. I’m ready for whatever comes my way. I know some people don’t feel like a size 18 woman can be a model, but I feel we can. I was always told to have thick skin, and I honestly can say there’s been a job or two that I didn’t get a call back for. My feelings were hurt but I kept it moving.

Do you find that it’s harder to be taken seriously as a plus sized model?
Plus Size models are finally being accepted. As you know they had a big fashion show in NY, a lot of plus size models are getting lots of print work. I just feel like it’s all about timing, but YES we have to fight to be taken seriously.

Would you ever consider losing weight so that you are not placed in the plus sized model bracket?
NO, I love being plus sized. I believe I will always be plus size, big bones run in my family. I am a curvy model, and I love ME!!!!

Why do you think even in this day and age, that designers still prefer to send an ultra thin, unhealthy looking model down the runway?
I think that designers will pick a size zero because the fabric is cheap. That is just my opinion.

What would be your dream job?
To walk the runway for Monif C, Evans Clothing, and be featured in well established magazines like Essences and Ebony.

What's next for you?
Well, I just finished up Nashville’s Fashion Week, I am working on getting a calendar, I’m also seeking an agency, so I can start booking more print work. I have a few more big interviews/features coming up. Everybody should get to know me and remember the name. I am just getting started!!!
