Launched in 2011 Shine
ALOUD Magazine aims to educate and entertain young people aged 15-24 about sex
and relationships but in a unique twist it also features music and fashion.
Owned and managed by
Journalism Undergraduate Rianna, the magazine already has 2500 readers and is
also being supported by well known companies and youth organisations like O2
Think Big, One Diverse Fashion, Ape media, StreetStarz TV and Channel 4's
Battle front campaign.
Passionate about sexual
health awareness, Rianna began by volunteering as a peer educator for sexual
health in Newham with Shine just over 4 years ago. She then went on to work for
Terrence Higgins Trust, Mens Health Magazine, Pulse Magazine and MTV The Wrap Up.
So she is definitely a fountain of knowledge on this subject.
With sex still being such
a taboo subject, Rianna wanted to create a magazine that would appeal to young people
on their level, so they would be able to learn more about sexual health and have
certain questions answered in private without being bored or switching off and
Shine ALOUD does just that.
Sexual Health, Arts and
culture. Not 3 things you normally think to put together, but somehow it works.
In fact it’s so obscure it’s actually genius!
So now you know about it, go
read, read READ!
