FU interviewed UK rapper/songwriter Babyosl:
How long have you been rapping for?
I’ve been rapping for 2 ½ years
Where did your name come from?
It was random, I just thought of the word Baby, then I decided to add the ‘enisle’
of my full name after it.
Who are your musical influences?
Missy Elliott, Eve, Tinie Tempah and Chipmunk.
You’re releasing a mixtape soon; everyone and their mum seem to be
releasing mixtapes at the moment, what makes yours so different?
I feel not that many people know me personally
and my struggles so my mixtape illustrates how I got myself into music, Why I’m
so shy, and why I want to be a successful artist.
Why are mixtapes so important to you as an artist, why did you feel the
need to release one, why not just release an album or EP?
Mixtapes are important to me, because I feel
like you can just express yourself freely, and it can show your possible/already there fans, what kind of music to expect.
What inspires your music?
My life struggles; from being bullied, to not feeling worthy enough. Also
world issues and little things that make me smile inspire my music too.
There’s an increase in rappers now trying to sing on their tracks
(although they’re clearly shit singers) would you ever make that crossover and
try to sing your own hooks?
I actually
sing my own hooks just because I love singing, even though I’m not good at I
don’t really care. Because I feel you can have the dopest singers on your hook,
but it just won’t illustrate the same feelings you had when you wrote it.
Do you think the area you live in influences your lyrics and if so do
you not worry that ‘outsiders’ may not get what you’re talking about?
Yeah it definitely does influence my lyrics
even though, my areas not the best area in London, but in my heart I am proud
of if it, because It made me who I am today.
What’s the biggest/best show you’ve done?
Performing at Notting Hill Carnival 2011 with
Renae Rain it was so amazing, I loved it, plus it was my first official
performance.
As a new artist, if you could support any rapper on tour who would it
be?
Missy
Elliott all the way, I love how she goes all out in her music video, and she so
inspirational plus she’s my favourite artist of all time.
What’s next for you?
Releasing a
mixtape round June, got a music video coming up for one of my singles from the mixtape
and hopefully more gigs.
