Greezy Dub

FU interviewed producer Greezy Dub:

What made you want to start producing?
Just the love for music. Ever since I was young I loved music and I always used to wonder how people created music. Since then I was like I gotta try this and it worked out for me.
How did you get your start?
It was in high school, a friend of mine introduced me to fruity loops 3.5, a music making software. I just started playing around with it everyday and slowly became addicted and the rest is history.
Where did your name come from?
My name is a combination of Grizzle & Dubeous. Back in the day I used to produce with my friend Sam and he called himself Grizzle & I was Dubeous Duke. After sometime I took elements from the two names and created "Greezy Dub". I never used the name publicly but people around campus used to call me that so it stuck.
What genre of music do you specialize in?
I started out only producing hip-hop and RnB, but now I have branched off into pop, electro, dance & dubstep. So I don't really specialize in one genre but hip hop is definitely my foundation.
What exactly do you do as a producer?
I do everything from beat making, to mixing as well as final mastering. I write choruses and map out ideas of how I feel a record should sound. I also give creative advice where necessary.
How long does it actually take to produce a song?
It really varies. Beats may take anywhere from 20 minutes to one week to perfect. The mixing and mastering process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months depending on the elements of the record. Each song brings about its own obstacles so it’s very difficult to put a time frame on it.
What artist would you love to produce a song for and what kind of track would it be?
My list changes all the time but in terms of hip hop I would love to make some stuff with artist like Rick Ross, Drake and Lil' Wayne. It’s so hard to pick one, but the type of track I would love to make is something really epic with an intense melody and huge drums more like a stadium type of record.
What inspires your work?
So many things inspire me, like other producers, artists, TV and fashion. I draw inspiration from the weirdest things sometimes. I can be watching a reality series or a cartoon and I will hear something that will make me want run to the lab and create something. At times I find myself recording stuff onto my phone like a melody from a cartoon or a weird sound that's unique so that I can use it on a beat or a record.
What other producers do you look up to?
The Neptune's, Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Danja Handz, Scott Storch, Polow Da Don, Just Blaze, Kanye West, Swizz Beatz and The Runners.
Who are the last 3 people you produced tracks for?
Sullee J (Rapper) from Baltimore Maryland USA, Chronic (Rapper) From Los Angeles USA & Boney Black (Rapper) From the UK.
What’s next for you?
A lot is coming up for me this year; I got many singles, EP's, Mixtapes coming out. I recently remixed a track for Sullee J feat The Legendary Canibus, and there's more records that are being worked on that feature a few heavy hitters from the industry. I’m also just looking for raw talent to collaborate with. I'm currently doing music for artist from the USA, UK, Italy, South Africa and other parts of Africa as well.
