Having already supported Rick Ross on his UK tour and enjoying success with his group D-Fam, FU interviewed London based Musician and Label Boss Castro D-Fam
How long have you been making music?
Professionally for 4 years but I’ve been doing music since I was 13
How did you get your start?
At school I was always rapping and battling but it was only when my cousin Megaman (So Solid) and older brother Kaish (So Solid) showed me I could take it further, that I began to take my music more seriously and make it a career.
What inspires your songs?
Life and things that I have been through be it good or bad.
Who are your musical influences?
So Solid, Jay Z, Kanye West and Coldplay because they all have crazy creativity
Tell us about D-Fam
D-Fam is the group I started when I was 16 it stands for Dedication Family and Music and have 6 members. Theres 4 rappers (Taj, Junks, Young C & Myself) and 2 singers (Denero & Jemmel)
D-Fam were quite popular at one point why did you guys disappear?
Every member apart from myself and Junks has had children so we decided to take a break to let them spend time with their family and be good parents. But we haven't stopped recording and the first album did really well independently so we can't complain, we love our fans.
Are you still with D-Fam?
I am yes. I could never not be a part of D-Fam, that's my creation. Even if it’s just me, the D-Fam name will still be alive like a second name, that’s why my stage name is Castro D-Fam.
What’s next for you?
Well in late 2011 I started my own company Starz Up Worldwide and will now be releasing all my material under my company while also building careers for up and coming talent like my artist MVP whom you'll see this year.
I'm also writing for a lot of international singers and as some people might know I was the guy who wrote Go for artist Meleka and I’m happy to say it did very well and was a club smash nearly 2 years running.
I'm also releasing a second EP at the end of February called Broken Promises so look out for that too.
