Soooo, we're not talking about the show on MTV (although that will pop up if you google these ladies) DaddysGirls is an exciting new UK R&B /Rap collective. Consisting of twins Melinda and Melissa and close friend Mimi, DaddysGirls who are set to take over the mainstream market.
Describing their 1st mixtape Life Begins with Lyrics as an 'organic sound influenced by an eclectic mix of Soul, Hip-Hop, Rap, RnB, Jungle and Drum and Bass,' DaddysGirls are unique and try to be the complete opposite to what is out the at the moment. They make some seriously addictive music, their songs have a very 90's feel to them especially 'Friday Night'. Listening to it will remind you of the good old days when most music videos consisted of people hanging out on stoops, having block parties and popping open fire hydrants. Or even the days when MTV just had one channel,it was cool to dance like MC Hammer and songs had to have a 'Hey!' or a 'Ho!' in it.
Although it would be so easy to Americanize themselves, once again the girls have stayed away from the obvious and stayed true to their North London roots. 'Without the help of attention grabbing gimmicks, DaddysGirls have entered the scene with not just outstanding talent, but beauty, charisma and creative style.'
Also, for the people who always stereotype rappers, these ladies are educated and all graduated from Brunel University and even though it would have been easier for them to drop out of uni to pursue their music career, they were determined to have the best of both worlds. These ladies prove that you do not have to sacrifice higher learning for a music career.
It's about time there was a credible female rap trio, very glad we found these talented young ladies.
